Hi everyone! I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Years for 2009. A few days late but I have some great news.

2008 was great. It was a busy year indeed with some wonderful highlights. One being my wife surprised me by flying us to Paris for my 30th birthday. Another being that I was named as one of the 50 Young Guns in ADC’s YG6 for last year. That was definitely an honor.

So now onto everything else. First, obviously this is my new blog site. You can check it out here. My mixes will now be easy to access on the column on the left. I do plan to get all of the old mixes up within this week so stay tuned for that as well as new ones.

Also, I updated my portfolio site which shares the structure of my blog site here. I will adding new work as it becomes available to show so be sure to bookmark it because I plan to update it more frequently than the last iteration. Also, please feel free to shoot me some kind words (or mean if it’s constructive) on what you think about them. A couple of projects are password protected for specific reasons so please don’t email me to get the password. I am sorry but I can’t show some of the work due to contractual agreements.

Lastly, I started a little store with some friends called Quality Goods Inc. We are still trying to work out a couple of kinks on getting all of our private stores ready so just email us which product you want and we’ll take note so once we are good and ready we can finish transactions. I promise it will be soon.

Hi all faithful visitors. I have tracked the stats and know there actually are more people coming to my blog than I had thought. I want to inform you that this blog will be closing down and moving to a new home. This will be happening next year along. Also next year will be a new update to my commercial portfolio as well as an online boutique I am getting off the ground finally. These 3 will be dropping on the same day most likely if all goes to plan. I’ll keep you updated. Thanks for being such great patrons to this blog!

I am really into these Oxfords by Timberland Boot Co. No not the Timbalands that Das EFX sports. These are slightly more refined. Their products are designed as if passed through time, with only the essential elements remaining. Reminiscent of the dress shoes of the 20’s and 30’s but connected to today through well worn finishes, minimal pieces and lightweight supple leathers. They will set you back a little more than you are used to but come on, you could pretty much wear these with anything.

Transitional Kicks | The Deckard

I turned the big 30 this year. So like many other dudes out there who are probably in a similar situation you have to figure out a transition to real adulthood. This next series of posts will focus on kicks that are nice transitions from those tired ass dunks you are still trying to make look fresh to some really timeless pieces that are far more versatile and will actually get you laid. I don’t know what dude is pullin’ dimes with purple patent leather dunks with lime green laces but these Deckards by Vael may have you turning some heads. Nice mid top deck shoes that have some nice detail and will stand the test of time. Or at least more than the 2 months you’re used to before you can’t stand to look at those cheetah print and orange ostrich leather Air Force 1s collecting dust in your closet. They are even priced at a nice $130.

I Wear Your Shirt

In this up and down economy Jason is outsourcing his wardrobe (namely shirts) to corporate america and you!(and me) He’s going to wear a different shirt for 365 days straight in 2009, take multiple pictures throughout his day and blog about it. Days are sold at “face value” so January 1 is $1 and December 31 is $365. Makes me wish I thought of this. I bought March 19th because it’s the 78th day of the year, duh. I just hope come next year it will be money well spent. Buy your day here.

So in relation to the trailer of the new Star Trek film I just posted I wanted to share these. I don’t know who is in the market for these, rich gangsta nerds, but they are pretty funny. I guess if Pharrell is rockin’ them then they have to be hot right? Buy them to sport at the premiere to the movie. If they aren’t absolutely ridiculously over priced like most of BBC’s clothing is then I would consider coppin’ them.

The Vers 1.5R is a classicly and elegantly designed ipod dock. It’s constructed entirely of wood and comes in a variety of wood finishes like the Tivoli Model One (I prefer the Walnut). At around $200 (depending on finsih) it’s a wonderful price. If you need something a little fuller, try the Vers 2X. They both should fill any room with rich sound.

My next series of posts will focus on small sweet little music boxes. Nicely designed, compact, and great sounding. First off is the Tivoli Model One. This is that little stereo you see in every house in Dwell Magazine. It really is ubiquitous and deservingly so. It’s retro looks and great sound make it a favorite of every geeky audiophile. It comes in a selection of colors and wood finishes. Best of all, it’s only $300 so it won’t set you back an arm and a leg. Some of the finishes are unavailable at the moment but with it’s popularity I am sure they will be back in stock in no time.

Speaking of charge, it only takes 2.5 hours to get a full charge. The only draw back, only 500 are going to be leasing in 3 states. California, New York, and New Jersey to commercial and private parties. I am working on getting on the list.

Eco Cool | Audi A1 Sportback Hybrid

This concept from Audi is probably the coolest looking hybrid vehicle concept out there. The Audi A1 Sportback is powered by a 1.4 liter TSI gas burning engine equipped with both a turbo and supercharger (INSANE RIGHT!) and a 20 kw electric motor. In Hybrid mode the 2 engines propel the A1 from 0 to 60 in like 8 seconds. Now that isn’t blistering fast but for a hybrid that is peppy. There is an all electric mode too that can drive for 60 miles without using gas. Not bad! All that and it looks pretty freakin’ hot. It’s slated for a 2009 production and should be hitting the US market for sure. I can’t wait personally, this could be my next car.

The Mod Rocker by Iglooplay is probably the coolest chair you can buy for your kid. The form and material invite kids to play, read or simply relax. In the Walnut finish, my favorite, it looks incredible and comfortable. There is an option to add a seating pad but I like it without. The prices aren’t too bad either running in the range of $285 to $385 depending on the finish. My kids will definitely have one of these to sit and read in.

It’s also insanely expensive so if you have about $4500 laying around then it is the option for you. This is definitely on the high end of the spectrum.

While I was in Paris last week I saw Mike Perry’s new book “Over & Over” on the shelf of a hip clothing and book store. I was pretty psyched actually. I have been a fan of his work for a while way back before his books. I was in need of some dope hand drawn type and Mike was nice enough to lend me some for a project. Well anyways, the book is pretty much awesome so I’d drop by his site and shell out some lunch money. So I have had quite a few requests for my old mixes to be uploaded. The unfortunate news is that I am out of space on my server with Media Temple and since I am uploading these out of the kindness of my heart I don’t see that happening as of now. I get really really cheap hosting with them now, it’s practically free, but to upgrade would mean me having to spend quite a bit more each month. If anyone has any solution or if I can get enough people who would donate to the cause (which I know may be illegal ) to help me cover the extra cost. What’s Slydial? It’s a pretty cool free phone service that let’s you go straight to someone’s voicemail without having to actually call them. Why would you want to do this? To avoid an awkward conversation, to save time, or to call someone you know who is in a meeting or can’t pick up. My favorite possible scenario is that I get a lot of calls from numbers I don’t recognize that don’t leave me a voicemail. With this you can slydial the number and wait to hear the voicemail. The process is simple too. You just dial their phone number, follow a prompt, enter the number you want to slydial, then you will hear their voicemail. Nike Hyperdunks Finally Released

Nothing says “The Future” like shoes designed in the late 1980s. Nike finally answered our prayers, and 3 year old petition we all signed, by releasing the Hyperdunks from Back to the Future 2. Only they didn’t really release them really (they aren’t exactly the same), they limited them to 350 and they sold out instantly of course. Now fanboys will have to pay a cool $2K on ebay for them. Kinda messed up but that is the nature of the sneaker collecting beast. Die hard heads with little to no life other than collecting waited in line for up to 24 hours to see if they could get their hands on a pair. Kobe Bryant rolled up in a Delorean and made a cameo at the Main Street location of Undefeated to sign 10 pairs. If they actually become somewhat attainable I’ll try to cop a pair. But that is highly unlikely I am sure of it.

My latest music obsessions has been Vampire Weekend and now Chester French. They both have this Ivy League prep school vibe that feels so fresh and so clean right now. Think Weezer back in ’94. They have gotten quite the buzz lately too. Pharrell Williams is hot on their stuff and signed them to Star Track records. They have a forthcoming album to be released sometime this year so keep an eye and an ear out for that. In the meantime listen to them on their Facebook page.

This is a must see for everyone. My good friend Bran created this amazingly insightful and poignant short film, that in about 2 minutes, tells us how much our wonderful government is spending on the “War in Iraq.” I am glad there are people who still don’t only care about how amazing mental ray renders are or how incredible the new trapcode plug in is. This should be setting an example to others in this industry to make more films that inspire us mentally and not just technically. I hope it sets an example for future personal projects in the motiondesign industry.

As much as I’d hate to say it, I like to decorate. There, I said it. More and more, we are becoming the new woman. And for a man, picking out pillows can be hard. I am not the kind of guy that can make a trip down to Crate & Barrel and buy some big fluffy pillows. The next few posts will be dedicated to helping find some cool pillows that won’t make you look like you have been watching too much Lifetime, TLC, or even Bravo. So first on the list is Sleepyheads by Christopher David Ryan of Atmostheory. Simple, folky, and can pretty much work on any chair or couch because they are black and white. Most of the designs are out of stock but I am sure there will be a re-stocking on them soon. At a price of only $35 for some functional art that’s not a bad deal.

I am a pretty big Steve McQueen fan. He, like my other favorite Frank Sinatra, somehow had this effortlessly cool presence about him. I walked by Arcana Books the other day and saw this in the window. They have the first edition release which I am dying to get for my birthday, if anyone is paying attention. McQueen had quite a collection of autos and motor bikes too.

I have an overflow of books and our one measly bookshelf in the living room isn’t quite storing them all. I just found Andy Lee’s rad bookshelf that is very affordable and easy to assemble. I like how it tapers just a little towards the top. He offers a coffee table too that is similar in design to the bookshelf too. I hope he continues to make more furniture because it’s refreshing to have another option other than IKEA, West Elm, or CB2 that is affordable.

Yes, I admit. I am sort of a Geoff McFetridge fanboy. I have been for a few years now. It all started when I saw his X-Games promos for ESPN. I pretty much subscribe to anything he puts out there. By the way, Patagonia just released a line of tees by Geoff and a few others. I really love Geoff’s though. I already bought 2 of them for the summer months ahead. I am going through a bit of a transition in my personal style. I would call it growing up. I am finding myself drawn more to a classic look. Something less slouchy, trendy, or hip even. That being said, I got excited when stumbling upon Bonobos. Bonobos are finely tailored pants for men. They come in an assortment of materials, colors, and fits. If they don’t fit, by the way, they have an amazing return policy. You won’t find them in stores either, they are online only. You have to act fast too because once a style is sold out they retire it. They also have belts, tees, and other accessories to boot.

Bin Bin Paper Basket

I am adding the Bin Bin Paper Basket to my Home Studio wishlist. I stumbled upon it at Nova 68, a cool boutique that specializes in super expensive modern stuff. Luckily this waste basket is only a cool $55. The basket obviously is riffing on crumbled up balls of paper. Literal is the new black apparently. I think it’s a great alternative to the standard office wastebasket. It comes in white or black. While we are on the topic of my Home Studio revamp, I did in fact purchase the Specktone iPod player and am disappointed in it’s performance. That is probably why they no longer make it. I am now on the hunt for a replacement. It looks way better than it sounds. In the meantime I think I’ll try selling it on ebay.

We don’t really practice crating Max & Molly. They sleep in the bed with us and that is fine with us. But if you are going to crate your best pal might as well do it in style. The eiCrate at Go Pet Design sells for around $320 (or $11K if you decide to go all out and get the gilded 24k gold version) and is probably the coolest looking crate I have seen. Who knows, maybe we’ll get one for Max to keep him at bay during the day when we are at work. I am sure if he saw how cool it was he’d dig it.

Couple this with a custom engraving and you can have one of the most original iPhones out there. You can opt for gold too but I think it could come off just a bit tacky.

Notebook Portable Grill

Just a reminder, I am from Texas, and the second biggest thing in Texas food after smoking your meat is grilling it. And while I am not totally into charcoal grills, the Notebook Portable Grill could be a handy little thing to take down to the beach. It’s totally compact and has a decent sized cooking surface perfect for burgers or dogs. Besides that, it looks pretty dope. If anyone has it let me know how you like it because I am thinking about buying it but would love to see how it performs. Thanks for the tip David. I am not sure if Meat Water is for real or if people are actually drinking/buying these. I am definitely curious to see what Texas BBQ in a bottle tastes like. They have other flavors such as Dirty Hot Dog, Pizza Prosciutto, and Fish N Chips. Reminds me of when I bought Jones Cola’s Thanksgiving soda set and actually tried drinking them. I nearly chucked. I dare someone to buy one these and try it.

I have been looking for cool stuff to adorn my new desk (er. the one I plan to buy in the near future once I can actually decide which desk I want). This i/o Desk Organizer from Kaiju Studios is pretty sweet. I love the mixture of felt and wood. It’s nice and modular too so you can rearrange it according to your mood that day. I think it’d go great with the Uten.Silo on the wall to store most of the stuff and then having this on the desktop for things you need more in immediate reach. Let’s just hope they find a manufacturer to partner with soon so we can buy it. Crossing fingers now.

Refinding Wallets, Bags, & Accessories

I am all for recycling materials to make new things. I really like what Refinding is doing with their line of products. They mix industrial textures and retro pop culture ephemera to create items like bags, wallets, watches, belts, and jewelry. I personally like the Tire Bag, the Tennis Ball Wallet, and even the Garbage Pail Kids Wallet (I was HUGE into GPK as a kid, and still am actually). They are all priced pretty reasonably too. Go cop some quick.

I just stumbled upon Dan Stiles’ site where he has a plethora of posters to buy. All around $25 - $30, they each have a unique style to them. Some cheery and cute, some more psychedelic, and some bold and graphic. Most are available although some of my favorites are sold out (ie. the Feist poster). I think I am sold on the fun Hot Chip design and am going to buy it and get it framed. He just so happens to be from Portland too which gives him MAJOR points for since I am pretty much obsessed with the town. Check out the posters and his design work when you get a chance.

Mini Cooper Clubman S

I currently drive a 2003 Mini Cooper S but I have been considering trading it in for a new ride. I have a few cars I am into at the moment but the current obsession is the new Mini Cooper Clubman S. I built my own today and it came out looking pretty slick in a black on black scheme with red and black leather interior. My price range is about $30K to $40K or so and once I tricked this bad boy out it came out to be $33K. My other cars of interest right now are the Volvo C30 2.0 R, the BMW 1 Series Coupe, the BMW Z4 Coupe 3.0si, the Mercedes C300 Sport, or the A4 Avant S-Line. It won’t be for another few months before I actually will be ready to seriously start looking but I can dream for now.

First your iPod and Macbook. Now you can engrave your Moleskin notebook. What’s next, cars, ice-cream cones, or how about your teeth! Well, I am not complaining. They look pretty sick. You can either buy one from the artists, like Dan Funderburgh, they had contribute designs for or send them your own graphics. This is definitely going to be a future project in the works. I plan to open up an online shop later this year with a few things to buy. I’ll keep you posted on that later but until then, enjoy the engravings!
